WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A family in West Valley City said the theft of their car couldn't have come at a worse time, as they were devastated to find their parents' ashes were taken along with the vehicle.
Sheila Bunn left her Toyota 4Runner parked outside her work at a Smith’s in West Valley City at 4100 South 5600 West.
She has worked there for 15 years and said she has never had any problems leaving her car in the parking lot.
On Wednesday though, as she finished her shift and walked to her car, it was gone.
She had left her mother and father’s urns with their ashes inside them in the passenger seat. She said she brought the ashes to work solely because she was planning to meet her brother at a mortuary after work so they could combine the parents' ashes and then split them up between the siblings.
“He was going to Hawaii and he was taking half and I was going to Oregon and taking half,” Sheila Bunn said. “That was their wishes. And this has been really hard for our family.”
But now she feels her heart is broken and she might never be able to fulfill her parents’ wishes.
She is hoping the public can help police locate the vehicle, which is a white, 1987 Toyota 4Runner with license plate: Y380DY.
“More than anything, I just want my parents back," she said.
If you know anything about her missing vehicle or happen to see it, please call the West Valley City Police Department. Non-emergency dispatch can be reached at 801-840-4000.
