DRAPER, Utah — A 3-year-old boy who ran into the street after attending a baptism celebration in Draper Saturday evening was struck by an SUV and later died at a hospital.
Sgt. Chad Carpenter of the Draper City Police Department confirmed around 10:10 p.m. the 3-year-old boy had died.
Carpenter said the boy and his parents were at a friend’s home to celebrate a baptism, and as they were walking to their car afterward the child darted into the street and was struck by an SUV traveling southbound on 700 West.
The crash was in the area of 11688 South and 700 West in Draper and occurred around 7:15 p.m.
The boy suffered head trauma and was transported by Life Flight to Primary Children’s Hospital, where he later died.
Carpenter stated the crash was, “a sad and tragic accident.”
The incident is still being investigated, but at this time no charges have been filed against 49-year-old driver of the SUV.
The identity of the child who was hit will not be released, police said.
