According to a press release from the Springville Police Department, the 9-year-old boy was riding his bike home after a Scout meeting when he traveled through a stop sign and into the path of a large SUV.

The crash occurred on 200 East (Dalton Drive) at the intersection with 2500 South just before 7 p.m. Police stated the driver of the SUV was traveling within the speed limit but was not able to avoid the crash.

EMTs offered medical aid on scene and the child was ultimately taken by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital, where he was placed on life support in an intensive care unit.

Police stated Thursday they were notified the child had died at the hospital.

There were no indications of impairment in connection with the crash, and police said they do not anticipate any charges being filed against the driver of the SUV.
