SALT LAKE CITY — Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and report unique stories on some of the biggest issues of our time, from voting rights and election security, to race and inequality, policing, climate change, immigration, COVID-19, and more?

KSTU FOX 13, in Salt Lake City, UT, has an immediate need for a Freelance Reporter/Multi-Media Journalist in Salt Lake City, UT. Be part of our top-rated team of outstanding Journalists and Reporters who produce daily original news and insightful features.

You will be an independent contributor covering breaking news on weekends, holidays, and scheduling gaps, with an hourly rate.

You will:

  • Evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas;
  • Gather and verify information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research;
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write stories, following prescribed editorial style and format standards;
  • Appear on television when conducting taped interview or narration;
  • Provide live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit;
  • Work cooperatively with photographer, if assigned;
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast;
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi-media stories;
  • Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms, such as Internet and digital channels.

Must Have:

  • Advanced computer skills, including newsroom systems;
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment;
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills;
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites;
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment;
