TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — New details about a police-involved shooting have been released, one day after a suspect died after being shot by multiple officers following an alleged domestic violence incident in Taylorsville.

Officers with the Taylorsville Police Department responded to the dispute around noon near 3950 West 5820 South, just east of the Kearns/Taylorsville boundary.

While officers were speaking with the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Foueti Afeaki, he allegedly produced a handgun, leading to three officers firing their weapons.

"Out of the four years I've lived here, nothing like this has happened," said neighbor Hilario Rodriguez.

Afeaki was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Usually there's children riding motorcycles and bikes down the street. I'm just glad no one was out here, no one got hurt," said Rodriguez.

No further details on the initial incident were immediately available. It was also not known whether Afeaki fired shots, nor whether he was wielding a gun or some other type of weapon.

"That's the hard part about domestic violence situations. They're all different. People are volatile in them because they're high-stressed things," said Lt. Aaron Cheshire. "We never like it to come to this."

The three officers have been placed on administrative leave following the shooting, as is normal police protocol during an investigation.

The incident came just one day after a non-fatal "officer-involved shooting" that occurred in Payson, in which a knife-wielding suspect was shot and wounded.
