18-year-old dead after shooting at West Valley City park

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — An 18-year-old man is now dead after being shot during an altercation Saturday evening in West Valley City.

West Valley City Police were called to Kings Point Park just after 6 p.m. after two groups, including individuals who know each other, met at the park to fight. During the altercation, the teen was shot once in the chest, according to WVCPD. He was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition, not breathing on his own.

Police announced later Saturday night that he had died from his wounds. His name has not yet been released.

Police are working to determine who the suspects are. They fled the scene and police say there were many witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call 801-840-4000.
