KANE COUNTY, Utah — A young woman died Wednesday night in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 89 in Kane County.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Annikka Jaramillo of Murray (also known as "Annie," according to a GoFundMe page) was in the front passenger seat of a Volkswagen car when it was struck by a Toyota Highlander SUV.

The accident occurred around milepost 35.5 of U.S.-89 — approximately halfway between Kanab and Lake Powell — shortly before 8 p.m. According to UHP, the driver of the westbound SUV attempted to pass a slow-moving truck in a no-passing zone. In the process, the SUV hit the eastbound Volkswagen head-on.

Jaramillo was pronounced dead at the scene. The Volkswagen's driver was flown to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Another passenger in the rear of the same car was transported to Kane County Hospital in "poor" condition.

The driver of the SUV was also transported to Kane in "poor" condition, and the passenger was flown to Dixie in critical condition.

An update on their medical conditions were not provided Saturday when UHP released the details of the crash.

The Kane County Attorney will screen possible charges, UHP said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Jaramillo's family for funeral expenses. Click here to view or donate.
