RIVERTON, Utah — A construction worker was rescued Saturday afternoon after becoming trapped in a collapsed trench in Riverton.

According to Unified Fire Authority spokesman Ryan Love, the man became trapped around 12:40 p.m. at a site near 13700 S. Lovers Lane. The trench was about five feet deep, but the man was covered chest-high by dirt and rocks.

Nearly 50 people responded to help in the effort, including UFA firefighters, UFA heavy rescue crews, Intermountain LifeFlight, and vacuum excavation trucks.

Emergency crews were able to get him out at about 3:30 p.m. He was evaluated for injuries, but officials later confirmed that he was uninjured.
