SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters were called to 847 S. 200 West in Salt Lake City on Sunday afternoon.

It was initially reported around 12:30 p.m. as an apartment fire, but ultimately turned out to be a vacant house.

The crew was able to put out the flames quickly and prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent house and apartment building, SLC Fire Department Capt. Shaun Mumedy said.

Mumedy said the house was abandoned, but the firefighters did find mattresses inside and "signs of occupancy." However, they did not find anyone inside at the time and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and SLCFD said the home does not appear to be a total loss.
