COALVILLE, Utah — A police and SWAT situation in Coalville ended after several hours following the death of a suspect. The name of the person who died wasn't released by officials.
According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, the situation began Thursday at around 5:0 p.m. Deputies were called to the report of a family dispute in the area of 300 South Main Street.
While deputies were speaking with the involved parties outside of the residence, one of the individuals, an adult man, went back inside the home and refused to come out.
Due to criminal conduct that occurred prior to law enforcement's arrival, along with safety concerns, the Summit County Sheriff's Office and Park City Police joint SWAT team was called to the scene.
According to officials, SWAT negotiators made repeated attempts to communicate with the barricaded suspect over the course of several hours. Negotiators made brief contact at one point, but the suspect remained uncooperative.
At one point, a drone was deployed inside the residence and observed the suspect with what deputies say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Teams entered the home and confirmed the individual was dead.
The incident remains under investigation.
