Victim of overnight shooting in Salt Lake City identified

One person died Saturday morning after being shot in Salt Lake City.

SLC Police received a call of a reported shooting at 1172 W. California Avenue just before 2 a.m.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a man in his early 20s had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition but later died from those injuries.

Later on Saturday, police identified him as 28-year-old Emilio Salazar.

It is believed an altercation broke out during a gathering at the home, and the victim was shot.

Police are investigating if the shooting may have been gang-related.

A suspect has not been arrested in connection to the shooting, but authorities believe there is no immediate danger to the community.
