One suspect killed in officer involved shooting on Navajo Nation

One suspect was killed in an officer involved shooting that happened on the Navajo Nation Wednesday, according to police.

The incident happened just after noon when Navajo Police Department officers responded to a report of an armed suspect in St. Michaels, Arizona.

According to a press release, the suspect fled in a vehicle and a tire deflation device was used to disable the vehicle.

When the suspect got out of the vehicle, they allegedly pointed a weapon at officers.

Officers responded to the threat by shooting the suspect. First aid was immediately given, but the person later died from their injuries.

Names of the suspect and officers as well as any additional information were not immediately released due to the ongoing investigation.

An investigation is being conducted by the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and by the FBI.
