OGDEN, Utah — A police officer shot a suspect while responding to an incident in Ogden Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 200 block of 26th Street (between Lincoln Avenue and Grant Avenue) around 4 p.m., where witnesses reported a fight involving a knife.

While attempting to resolve the disturbance, an officer fired his gun about four times, hitting the suspect twice.

Ogden Police Chief Eric Young gave an update Tuesday that the officer didn't have a body camera because he rushed out of the precinct during a briefing meeting and forgot to grab one during the process. However, Young said a witness captured part of the incident on video, and the footage is now part of the Weber County Attorney's Office's independent investigation.

Young said the suspect was taken to a local hospital and was conscious, breathing and alert at the time. As of Tuesday, he was stable and expected to recover.

The department identified the suspect as 32-year-old Casey Pacheco, and the county attorney's office will determine if he will be charged.

The officer was not injured and will be on paid administrative leave until the investigation is concluded.
