SANDY, Utah — Sandy City has selected a new chief of police to replace the late Chief William “Bill” O’Neal.
Chief Greg Severson, who has been the interim chief since O'Neal's death, will take the official role, the city announced Friday.
O'Neal died in January from natural causes due to an "unfortunate medical event," the Sandy City Police Department said at the time. No further information on the medical incident has been released.
"Chief Severson has many years of experience, institutional knowledge and respect by law enforcement all across the state. We look forward to the future of the Sandy City Police Department with Chief Severson's leadership," the city's announcement read.
