SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police released intense body camera video Tuesday from an officer-involved shooting that ended with a victim dead, an officer shot and a suspect in jail.

According to police, a dispatcher received a 911 call from an apartment building at 125 S 300 E around 3:30 a.m. on February 10.

Court documents say that when officers arrived, they saw 34-year-old Natalie Thurber getting strangled by her live-in boyfriend, 30-year-old Michael Nancethey saw 30-year-old Michael Tyson Nance t

An officer broke out a basement bathroom window, then police say Nance walked out of the bathroom, returned with a gun and shot Thurber in front of officers.

Nance then allegedly turned the gun and shot at officers. One was almost immediately hit, suffering a non-life-threatening injury.

The gunfight continued as Nance allegedly backs out of the bathroom. Court papers show he unsuccessfully tried to kill himself by shooting a gun at his chin then ran out a back door.

Officers in the video mention seeing Thurber dead on the ground.

“I think a beautiful life was taken in an unnecessary act of violence that was preventable,” said Nicole Young in a statement to FOX13.

Nance faces several felony charges, including aggravated murder and attempted homicide.
