SALT LAKE CITY — With the holiday season in full swing, there’s another special holiday this year that is big for the state of Utah.
Come January 4, Utah will celebrate its 125th birthday and the state is planning some big celebrations.
“All Utahns are invited to participate in a statewide celebration of the 125th anniversary of Utah’s statehood, which will launch on Jan. 4 with a TV special and simultaneous fireworks in all 29 counties.”
The Utah Department of Heritage and Arts says “The special will celebrate the state’s artistic heritage, cultural diversity and scenic wonders. Performances will include musical and dance numbers from notable Utah performers.”
The special will air on FOX 13 at 6:30 p.m. on January 4.
“This statehood celebration is an opportunity for Utahns to start their new year with unity and hope,” Utah Gov.-Elect Spencer J. Cox said. “This program celebrates the arts and their importance to the state’s economy and quality of life, and encourages each of us to continue to support the cultural community as our economy recovers.”
“We want to bring the whole state together we want to bring people together to view the special in a COVID safe way by watching it on television and then celebrate with the fireworks” Katherine Potter, Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Heritage and Arts told FOX13 while walking us through what to expect “We will have some musicians playing with singers they’ve never performed with before some of them are filmed onsite with in the national parks or the state parks”
FOX 13 also spoke with Kerri Prawitt, the Talent Coordinator for Thrive 125 who said “it was just an amazing opportunity” adding “our industry has been hit rather hard to be able to do it just before Christmas… and see some of my good friends just the artists that were there”
