SANDY, Utah — Sandy Police took a juvenile suspect into custody Wednesday evening in connection with a fatal shooting at a mobile home park.
On Thursday afternoon, police identified the victim as 18-year-old Aliani Mejia-Marin of Sandy.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the area of 200 W Eastgate Dr.
Police said the shooting was a result of a confrontation between two groups of people.
"We had a lot of people involved that witnessed the incident who were able to help us identify the suspect, which, fortunately, brought it to a resolution," said Clayton Swensen, Sandy City Police Department.
Mejia-Marin was initially transported to a hospital in critical condition. Shortly after 10 p.m., police announced she died of her injuries.
The juvenile suspect, whose name wasn't released because he is a minor, has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
