MYTON, Utah — A Duchesne County man has been arrested after police say he unintentionally fired a shotgun through his front door, hitting his neighbor who was knocking on the door.
Kyler John Smith, 21, was flown to a hospital Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in Myton. He succumbed to his wounds Friday morning.
Michael Raymond Reyburn, 59, was arrested for manslaughter, along with weapons and drug offenses, after police say they found him inside his home — where Smith was found outside — with a sawed-off shotgun and with methamphetamine, marijuana, digital scales and other drug paraphernalia in his home.
Police say Reyburn and Smith are neighbors with one mobile home between them.
According to authorities, Reyburn said Smith was pounding on his front door Thursday around 2 p.m. Reyburn went to answer the door with the shotgun in hand, and it discharged through the door, striking Smith in the head.
Another man, 19-year-old Nautika Malakhi Noon was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault after police say he went to Smith’s trailer home several hours before the shooting Thursday and pointing a pellet gun at Smith.
