Suspect arrested after homicide investigation in Sugar House

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police arrested a man in connection with a homicide in Sugar House that occurred Saturday morning.

The suspect was identified by police as 38-year-old Levon Garo Meguerditchian.

Around 4 a.m., police received a report of a shooting. near 600 E. Wilmington Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a car that had crashed into two homes. They also discovered a deceased person in the car with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Abdourazak "CJ" Mouhoumed.

According to police reports, Meguerditchian hosted a party at his home at 609 E. Wilmington Avenue. At one point, a group of party-goers took a bottle of alcohol and left the residence. Mouhoumed also left the residence at the time of these party-goers but left in his own car.

Police believe that Meguerditchian then fired multiple shots at Mouhoumed's vehicle.

The car crashed into two houses along 600 East. Neither homeowner heard nor reported the crash.

When officers arrived on scene the next morning, they found Mouhoumed with gunshot wounds and performed CPR, but it was unsuccessful.

Roads surrounding the area were closed as crime lab technicians and detectives investigated. A SWAT team was also deployed to secure the scene for the investigation.

Officers also became aware of a possible hostage situation involving a 17-year-old girl being held in Meguerditchian's home. During their investigation, SLCPD SWAT located the teen who had been physically assaulted, but did not have life-threatening injuries. Her name will not be released since she is a minor.

Meguerditchian was arrested on suspicion of murder, obstruction of justice and felony discharge of a firearm in the direction of a vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation.
