Semi truck fire spawns massive plume of black smoke off I-215

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A fire involving multiple semi trucks sparked an even larger fire after it spread to a nearby grass field, sending a massive plume of black smoke across Salt Lake City on Friday.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department said the fire started just after 3:15 p.m. at a shop that refurbishes semi trucks at 2115 West Indiana Circle. According to the department, 18 semi trucks were damaged by the fire before it spread to the grass field.

Massive fire sends plume of smoke across Salt Lake Valley

Nearby five dozen personnel were assigned to battle the fire and no one was injured.

Because of the smoke, temporary delays were seen on nearby I-215, and police asked everyone to avoid the area of the fire.
