SALT LAKE CITY — In the hours following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, people across Utah gathered in different locations to mourn the death of the conservative activist who died Wednesday.
A large crowd was seen at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem, where Kirk's body was brought, and where he was later pronounced dead. Flags and flowers were shared in support of Kirk and his family.
As Kirk's body was transported from the hospital to the medical examiner's office in Taylorsville, more people lined the streets to say their goodbyes. One person said an incident such as the shooting won't stop them from voicing their views in the future.
"It's super real when it just hits home," said Kelsie Gruenewald, who watched the motorcade. "You always hear about it in other places, and you feel strongly about certain things and are on board with certain things, but when it's in your own home, it just kind of like ignites something in you even more is what happened to me today. Just makes me want to like stand up even more and be even more vocal."
Several vigils were organized to help people gather in memory of the activist.

Hundreds gathered inside the rotunda at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City for a vigil that featured prayers and speeches by present and former state representatives.
"He knew the hostility he would face," said Rep. Tiara Auxier (R-Morgan). "He knew the names he would be called, but he showed up anyway because he loved America and he believed it was still worth fighting for."
A separate vigil was held at Orem City Center Park where a photo of Kirk was displayed on a stage as many people got up to speak about the influencer and what he brought to their lives.
