UTAH COUNTY, Utah — Police are investigating after human bones were found in a remote, mountainous area on Saturday.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office said the person who initially spotted the remains was riding a horse in the mountains above Springville. Once they returned to cell phone service, they called 911 to report what they found.
UCSO deputies and detectives went out to search for the remains early Sunday morning, since it was getting close to nightfall by the time they received the report.
The sheriff's office says they have confirmed that the remains were human, but their identity has not been determined yet. They are working with the state medical examiner now.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office added that it appears the remains "have been there for some time."
