OGDEN, Utah — It was a wild Saturday night for those in Ogden after severe thunderstorms brought heavy rains, high winds and downed power lines to the area, creating hazardous conditions.
Several power lines landed on top of cars outside of the Newgate Mall.
Ogden fire officials said downtown events like the Twilight Concert at the Municipal Building Garden and Raptors Stadium ballgame were suspended for over an hour until the storm passed.
Despite the heavy flooding in the area, Ogden Fire worked with Ogden City Police, Public Works, and Weber Area Dispatch and utility companies to address the hazards.
"Ogden City appreciates the cooperation and patience of residents and visitors affected by the storm and the suspension of the downtown event," the Ogden Fire Department said in a statement. "Public safety remains the City's highest priority when severe weather creates potentially dangerous conditions.”
As of Sunday afternoon, Ogden Fire told FOX 13 News that repairs to the power infrastructure is still ongoing, but general cleanup is minor and widespread.
As storms continue to make their way across the state, officials encourage residents to not drive over downed power lines, report any hazards, keep children/pets away from damaged electrical equipment, stay clear of standing water, and treat every downed power line as if it were energized.
The city green waste will be open on Monday to receive tree debris.
