SANDY, Utah — A Sandy school has been evacuated following a bomb threat.

The Sandy Police Department responded to The Waterford School, a private school at 1480 East 9400 South.

The exact nature of the threat is under investigation, but it was placed via a phone call to the school.

Officials said the school is secure and that all students and staff have been accounted for, and parents are now picking up their children.

"It's a very serious crime. This is a big one," said Sgt. Michael Olsen. "Obviously, this affects a lot of people, not just for the students, the faculty, but it also affects the families of these students and these faculty members. [The threat] affects the neighborhood, it affects the community.

"These things are stuff that we take very seriously, and we will use all of our ability to work through the investigation and hold those accountable that need to be held accountable."

No other buildings or roads have been shut down due to the threat.
