Two passengers killed, driver critically injured after car collides with freight train in Juab County

JUAB COUNTY, Utah — Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after the car they were in was hit by a train Saturday in Juab County.

Around 5 p.m. near Mona, a car was traveling east on Burraston Road when it was struck by a northbound Union Pacific train, according to the Juab County Sheriff's Office. Authorities are investigating to determine exactly what led to the crash.

Two passengers in the car were killed. Cassandra Brielle Hatch, age 22 from Gilbert, Arizona, was transported to the Utah Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Tanner Ryan Davies, age 22 from Spanish Fork, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 22-year-old Jacob Michael Cottle from La Plata, Maryland, was taken to the UVMC in critical condition.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for medical and funeral expenses for the victims' families.
