SPANISH FORK, Utah — A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents of a Spanish Fork neighborhood on Saturday after the suspect in a domestic violence incident began shooting at police officers.
Spanish Fork Police said a woman called 911 around noon to report a domestic violence incident. She said her husband had hurt her, pinning her down and threatening her with a knife. She was able to get away and exit the home. She told police that her husband had been drinking, he was throwing things out of the window, and he had multiple weapons inside the home.
When police arrived at the home, near 800 South 1500 East, they said the man was holding a rifle out of a window and they heard gunshots inside the house. This triggered a multi-agency response, including the Utah County Metro SWAT team. They used an armored vehicle to approach the house, but the suspect fired at the vehicle. Several officers returned fire.
After a second attempt to approach the home and negotiate, the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody. Officials said he had minor injuries, but it was not stated whether he was shot.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and will be booked afterward on multiple felony charges, according to police.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly before 2 p.m.
The incident is now under investigation by the Utah County Officer-Involved Critical Incident team.
