SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another in critical condition early Sunday morning.
University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe was later identified as the person killed.

The shooting occurred at 12:30 a.m. at a house party in the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street in Sugar House.
Police received a noise complaint about a house party in the area around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. At 12:20 a.m., police received a call reporting a fight involving a weapon.
Police arrived on the scene and found 21-year-old Lowe dead. Another victim, identified only as an adult female, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
What makes the shooting more tragic is that Lowe is the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the Utes running back who died in 2020 of a gunshot wound while at home in Texas. The two also attended and played for the same high school. Prior to the 2021 season, Lowe had changed his jersey number to Jordan's #22 in honor of his friend.

Lowe, a third-year sophomore cornerback who played primarily on special teams, saw action in the first three games of this season. He played in all five games of the 2020 season and 11 games in 2019.
Police said they believe there were several people who witnessed the shooting and fled before officers arrived. They also believe some of them likely have photos or videos that could help investigators solve the case as no suspects have been arrested yet.
