BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A new wildfire broke out Monday afternoon in a remote area of northern Utah.
State wildfire officials said the East Promontory Fire is burning in Box Elder County, about 18 miles south of Howell and just north of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.
The fire has grown to 100 acres, driven by the wind. Officials said it is threatening some ranches nearby.
Crews are working to contain the fire from the ground and from the air.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
