ST. GEORGE, Utah — One person was killed after a fatal crash involving a tow truck on Interstate 15 in St. George early Monday.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a truck hauling construction supplies was headed northbound on I-15 just before 7 a.m. when it drove off the roadway and onto the soft shoulder in a curve.
As the truck continued on the highway shoulder, troopers said it continued driving towards the Brigham Road on-ramp, which sits at a lower elevation than the shoulder. When the truck went off the shoulder and onto the ramp, it rolled over the dirt gore area, crushing the cab of the truck, killing the driver.
Utah Highway Patrol says the driver was a 66-year-old man.
The crash blocked exit ramp 4, the on-ramp for Brigham Road, causing lengthy traffic delays before the scene was cleared later in the morning.
It's not known why the truck went off the highway, but UHP said it is investigating the incident.
