BRYCE CANYON, Utah — Nearly a dozen hikers in Bryce Canyon National Park got caught in flash floods Monday afternoon, and some had to be taken to the hospital.
Around 2:30 p.m., the floods stranded 11 adults across four groups of hikers in the park, according to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office. Fortunately, none of them were swept away by the floods.
The county's search and rescue team, emergency medical services and park rangers responded to the call and helped the groups hike out once it was safe to do so. There were about 15-20 of those first responders who helped the hikers.
After being medically evaluated, two showed signs of hypothermia and were taken to the hospital. The remaining nine were released.
The main trails that were impacted by the floods included Fairyland Loop, Navajo Loop, Queen's Garden, and Peek-a-Boo Loop.
In addition, the flooding forced State Route 12 to be closed in the area temporarily. It was back open as of Monday night.
