PROVO, Utah — A large brush fire that sparked above Slate Canyon in Provo late Saturday night was started by fireworks, officials said.
Despite the early information on its start, the fire, which grew to as large as 5 acres and was put out fairly quickly, remains under investigation.
According to the Provo Fire Department, no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.
A brush truck was kept at the scene overnight to monitor for hot spots.
Officials investigating the fire were able to utilize social media videos to help determine its cause. Provo was one of the Utah cities that had banned the use of personal fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday due to extreme wildfire conditions.
The Provo Police Department originally warned people to stay away from Slate Canyon Drive and nearby areas, as well as to not fly drones nearby the fire.
