SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County on Saturday.
The Utah Highway Patrol said three vehicles were involved in the incident on I-80 near the Great Saltair. They said shortly before noon, a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west in the eastbound lanes when it hit a Dodge Ram pickup truck head-on. A Toyota RAV4 SUV that was behind the truck then crashed into it, causing the pickup to overturn.
The driver of the Malibu died at the scene.
UHP officials said the other occupants in the vehicles were all transported to local hospitals in critical condition, although the total number was not given.
All eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down, with traffic being diverted to SR-201 while the scene was cleared.
